In [[Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction]], the assault rifle is commonly held by either NK or Chinese soldiers, and is the most common weapon encountered in the game. It is a fairly decent weapon to have in most combat situations, especially since ammo will most likely always be within reach. But compared to the more high-tier weapons such as the Light Machine gun, the assault rifle will fall short.

Matt Kresge is the CO of the Maracibo Airport outpost; with a warm smile (possibly, you can never know 'cause of his balclava) he offers you 2 missions (technically 4 if you count all three levels of into the green zone) : Into the Green Zone, and to take back the Cabimas outpost; located in the industrial sector close to Altagracia.

Into the Green Zone has you escort three UP execs. , each level getting slightly more difficult; first level is a breeze, just dont do anything stupid like lingering in one spot and be a bullet magnet. Second level has VZ APCs added to the mix, while the Third replaces the APCs with Puma light tanks;whom you will want to give a wide berth.

It can be viewed as the offspring of the Combat Rogue and Anti-Tank Rogue. It has two miniguns, a nineteen-shot 57mm FFAR pod, and two anti-tank missiles[[File:Up rogueassassin.jpg\|thumb]]. This is an early solution to any Merc that wishes to pound the enemy, just be aware of the light armour.

Jim Wahlquist is the CO of the Altagracia outpost; once you capture it, he greets you politily and offers you a mission to liberate the Maracibo Airport outpost from Carmona's troops, as well as unlock UP's HVT bounties, targets of oppertunity, and gives you permission to land at the Oil Depot and Altagracia.

NOTE: Jim Wahlquist is named after James Wahlquist, whom is one of the many people featured in the credits after you beat the game.

Drew Marlowe is your first UP contact as well as the Manager of the UP Oil Depot, located a few blocks from the HQ itself. He gives you the mission to recapture the Altagracia Outpost and gives you your first look at UP's weapon/vehicles/airstrikes shop. His command structure (where you go to talk to him) is also ironically on China's target list, should you take their offer to wipe Universal Petroleum's operations off the map.
